Fatality Reported in Fresno Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 near Belmont Avenue
FRESNO, CA (April 4, 2021) – Saturday morning, a man in his early 50s died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 near Belmont Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a person runs to the center divider just before 6:00 a.m. Afterward, a Dodge Caravan and a Volkswagen Passat struck the pedestrian. Then, several vehicles passed over the body of the pedestrian before all traffic stopped.
CHP Public Information Officer Mike Salas confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, the incident led to the closure of three southbound lanes of the highway for three hours. By 9:00 a.m., the road reopened.
At this time, the authorities haven’t confirmed whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
