Car Hits 66-Year-Old Pedestrian near Blaine Street
SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 2, 2018) – A man was in critical condition on Sunday evening, after a pedestrian crash on Ocean Street. The victim was only identified as a 66-year-old man.
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the accident took place around 8:00 PM near Blaine Street. Reports show that the elderly pedestrian was looking down when he walked into the roadway and was struck by a yellow 2009 Mini Cooper. The driver, a Santa Cruz resident, was traveling at around 25 mph at the time of the collision.
The injured victim was taken to a Bay Area trauma center for treatment and evaluation. He was listed in critical, but stable, condition. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials during their investigation.
Investigators said the pedestrian did not use the crosswalk when crossing the street. Witnesses or anyone with additional information is asked to contact SCPD investigators by calling (831) 420-5820.
