1 Hospitalized after Oakland Auto Accident on Bancroft Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (May 24, 2020) – Friday night, a man suffered critical injuries after a pedestrian crash on Bancroft Avenue in Oakland.
According to the police, the male pedestrian was strolling east in the 5200 block of Bancroft Avenue along the south side bicycle lane around 9:47 p.m. However, an eastbound vehicle that didn’t stop struck him. After the crash, the driver fled the scene.
At this time, the hit-and-run driver is still at large. Moreover, the authorities didn’t release the victim’s age and place of residence.
The authorities described the hit-and-run vehicle as a possibly newer model Honda, white, with four doors. However, the officials didn’t release any description for the suspect driver.
The police are also not certain whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the hit-and-run pedestrian crash.
The authorities intensify their investigation. Thus, the Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland offered reward money of up to $5,000 for information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect. The police encourage anyone with information to contact police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
Facts about California Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrian accidents are incidents in which someone walking or crossing a road is injured by a vehicle striking them.
If you’re a driver, make sure to scan the road 1/2 mile to a full mile ahead to the lookout or recognize potential hazards in time. Our bodies weren’t designed to travel at 50mph. We were designed for speeds of less than 10mph, thus you need to learn to consciously break that instinct and focus farther ahead.
On the other hand, if you’re a pedestrian, always make sure to practice safety precautions as well. While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.
“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
