1 Injured in Redwood City Car Collision on Poplar Avenue
REDWOOD CITY, CA (September 20, 2019) – A man suffered critical injuries following a car collision on Poplar Avenue on September 18.
According to reports, a K-9 officer who lost control of a patrol vehicle on the wet road hit a pedestrian. The officer responded to a possible home invasion robbery on Poplar Avenue. He then crashed into the center median of El Camino Real south of James Avenue.
The patrol vehicle went across the center median of El Camino Real and struck the man standing on the median at around 10:00 a.m.
Responders transported the pedestrian in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
However, the vehicle then went into the opposing lanes of traffic. After that, it crashed with two northbound vehicles on El Camino Real before stopping on the east sidewalk.
Moreover, responders also transported the officer to a local hospital for precautionary measures. Meanwhile, the K9 didn’t seem injured.
The California Highway Patrol Redwood City’s office is investigating. In addition, the CHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team assisted.
The crash also closed both directions of El Camino Real between Jefferson and James avenues.
