Pickup Truck Rear-Ends Big Rig on Highway 101 in Salinas, Major Injuries Sustained
SALINAS, CA (July 29, 2019) – A man sustained injuries following a rear-end crash Monday afternoon on Highway 101 in Salinas.
The crash happened around 12:32 p.m., on the southbound direction of the highway near Boronda Road off-ramp.
According to an initial dispatch, a red pickup truck rear-ended a white tractor-trailer carrying wine. In addition, the pickup truck began smoking after the crash. The driver of the big rig tried to get the man out of the pickup.
Officers arrived and located both vehicles blocking the highway while debris were strewn across all lanes. Police located the male occupant of the pickup truck lying on the ground with major injuries.
Paramedics transported the man to Natividad Medical Center for treatment of broken ribs, a broken left leg and a head injury. The condition of the patient is not immediately known.
The big-rig sustained major rear-end damage and towed away from the crash site.
No additional information was provided at this time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
