SUV Catches Fire after Crashing Head-On with Big Rig on Highway 41 in Stratford, 2 Fatalities Reported
STRATFORD, CA (January 20, 2020) – A man and a woman died in a fiery head-on crash Monday afternoon in Stratford.
The crash happened around 2:19 p.m. on Highway 41 at 22nd Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a BMW was traveling southbound on the highway when it veered onto the shoulder for unknown reasons. The driver overcorrected and ended up in the northbound lane. The BMW then collided head-on with a big rig.
The impact caused the BMW to burst into flames. The big rig, reportedly carrying 80,000 pounds of salsa in containers on a flat-bed trailer, ended up in a ditch.
As a result, both occupants of the BMW died at the scene. Their bodies had not been identified as of Tuesday morning.
The truck driver, a 40-year-old Lemoore man, was not injured.
CHP officials blocked the highway while they investigated the incident.
