Modesto Man Dies after Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 near Keyes Road
MODESTO, CA (September 23, 2019) – A 57-year-old Modesto man died in a pedestrian crash on Highway 99, Monday evening. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 9:15 PM. 34-year-old Matthew Higle attempted to enter the highway when his 2009 Nissan sedan hit the pedestrian near Keyes Road.
Higle pulled to the shoulder of the highway and immediately called 911. Emergency crews arrived and found the pedestrian unconscious on the on-ramp. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal collision. Officers encourage witnesses to cooperate as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
