56-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Metropolitan Transit System Bus near Walter Way
EL CAJON, CA (June 21, 2018) – A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning following a bus collision on East Madison Avenue.
According to the El Cajon Police Department, the deadly collision happened at 5:20 AM in the 1300 block of East Madison Avenue near Walter Way, just east of North Second Street. A man was walking south on a sidewalk when he attempted to cross the street and entered the path of an oncoming Metropolitan Transit System bus.
Paramedics responded to the scene and immediately began performing life-saving efforts to the victim, who sustained major injuries. He was later rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the medical staff. The identity of the 56-year-old male pedestrian has not yet been released to the public, pending notification of family.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver of the bus also stayed at the scene to cooperate with officials during their investigation. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible factors in the fatal incident.
