22-Year-Old Man Killed in Los Gatos Rollover Accident on Highway 17
LOS GATOS, CA (March 25, 2020) – An unidentified male driver was killed in a car collision on Highway 17 early Tuesday morning, on March 24.
California Highway Patrol revealed that the incident happened around 2:55 a.m., on Highway 17. First responders arrived just south of the Cats Restaurant.
A 22-year-old man was driving a 2017 Mazda Protege 5. For unknown reasons, the Mazda steered onto the right embankment and then drove back across two southbound lanes.
There, the Mazda struck the median and eventually rolled over. After overturning, the Mazda then struck a 2002 Toyota Prius, forcing it into the right lane. The driver of the Mazda was then ejected from the vehicle.
“It appears the driver may have removed his seat belt just prior to the overturned Mazda being struck,” CHP added.
Santa Clara County Fire Department declared the Mazda driver dead on scene. Additional information about the driver of the second vehicle remains unavailable as of this time.
Authorities ruled out alcohol or drugs as a factor in the fatal collision.
As a result of the crash, authorities shut down all lanes of traffic for around an hour.
