KINGS COUNTY, CA (April 24, 2022) – Friday night, a male driver died in a high-speed pursuit crash on Highway 198 near 6th Avenue.
 
The incident occurred just after 10:00 p.m. on Highway 198 near 6th Avenue.
 
According to reports, officers tried to pull over a speeding Chevy Camaro in the eastbound lanes. However, the driver declared and continued driving faster than 100 mph.
 
As the car approached 6th Avenue, the driver lost control, rolled over, and struck the back of another vehicle.
 
Then, both vehicles fell down an embankment on the side of the highway near Avenue 11.
 
The CHP suspects that the Camaro driver failed to wear a seatbelt. As a result, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, responders transported the female driver of the other vehicle to the hospital with major injuries.
 
“Almost 50% of our fatalities involve unrestrained occupants. There’s a direct correlation between the survivability of a collision and being properly restrained,” said CHP Sgt. Brian Pennings.
 
At this time, the authorities wait for the toxicology report to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role.
