Maia Correia Killed in Bicycle Accident on Lakeshore Drive [Oakland, CA]

Oakland, CA (September 11, 2023) – On August 12, 4-year-old Maia Correia died following a bicycle accident on Lakeshore Drive.

It was just minutes past 5 p.m. on August 6 when Maia Correia and her father where hit by an open car door during a bike ride in the 1900 block area.

“The impact caused an adult bicyclist and a juvenile who was being trailered on a tag along bike to fall off,” the authorities report said. 

The accident report stated that Maia was wearing a helmet when the crash happened. 

Maia Correia was initially cleared by doctors, however, on the next day,  Maia was rushed to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland after losing consciousness.

It has been reported that upon arrival Maia’s arrival to the hospital, imagery showed a blood clot formed between the brain and her skull.  Two days later, she sadly went into a coma. 

Investigating officers said Maia “succumbed to her injuries she incurred during the accident on August 12.
