Mae Hushbeck and Virgileen Day Struck by Vehicle in Wal-Mart Parking Lot
SALINAS, CA (March 19, 2018) – A woman died and another was injured after a vehicle struck them in a Wal-Mart Parking Lot along North Davis Road on Monday afternoon.
The pedestrian accident occurred around 2:00 PM. It was reported that 88-year-old Virgileen Day and 89-year-old Mae Hushbeck were walking in the Wal-Mart parking lot at the 1375 block of North Davis Road when they were struck by a vehicle operated by 67-year-old Ray Martinez Cadena Jr. The vehicle hit then dragged the two women for a short distance.
Hushbeck and Day sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Hushbeck died while undergoing treatment. Authorities did not immediately confirm the condition of the involved driver.
The fatal incident is still under investigation by police officials to determine the exact cause.
