Two-Car Wreck in Madera Kills 1 and Injures 2 Others
MADERA, CA (February 1, 2019) – An 81-year-old man was killed following a two-car crash Friday night in Madera, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 6:18 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 12 and Road 25.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 76-year-old man. Their car was heading westbound on Avenue 12, approaching Avenue 25.
A Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 29-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Avenue 12 when it suddenly made a left turn at Avenue 25, striking the Malibu.
The older man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The woman and the driver of the Malibu were injured and transported to a local hospital.
At this time, authorities did not rule out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. The roads were wet at the time of the crash, but the CHP does not believe that to be a factor in the crash, either.
The incident remains under investigation.
