1 Person Dead in Monterey County Auto Accident on Highway 1 near Aguajito Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (November 11, 2024) – Sunday morning, Maddie Elizabeth Fletcher died in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Highway 1.

The incident happened at around 9:45 a.m. on Highway 1 near Aguajito Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Nissan struck a northbound Black Honda for still unknown reasons. Then, the force of the crash pushed the Honda to lost control, veered off the roadway, and crashed into a tree.

Moreover, paramedics pronounced the driver of the Honda, identified as 19-year-old Fletcher from Shelby, North Carolina, dead at the scene.

Furthermore, authorities confirmed that the Nissan fled the scene northbound on Highway 1, without stopping to provide aid.

The events leading to the crash remain unclear at this time. The public will be notified when additional information becomes available.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued investigating the crash.
