1 Person Fatally Injured Collision near Mt Hebron Summit
MACDOEL, CA (November 21, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon, at least one person was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 97. The deceased victim’s name and place of residence were not immediately released to the public.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:43 PM, just south of Mt. Hebron Sumit.
First responders arrived at the scene to find that a red Dodge Durango had collided head-on with a sedan. A big rig was also found in the area, possibly involved in the crash. One of the vehicles was reportedly smoking and debris was scattered in the roadway.
While details on the events leading up to the collision were not immediately available, an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene and transported those who were injured to a nearby hospital. Sadly, at one patient did not survive and was declared dead. There is no update on the conditions of other victims.
The Dodge SUV sustained major front-end damage and was towed away from the wreckage. It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. No new information has been released as the incident remains under investigation.
