50th Street East Crash in Palmdale Kills Mac Smith, Injures Lurlene Smith
Palmdale, CA (May 06, 2021) – On Thursday, Mac Smith, 64, died, while 68-year-old Lurlene Smith of Palmdale was injured in a crash on 50th Street East.
Moreover, the fatal accident happened at about 3:50 a.m. north of Avenue P, wherein a few vehicles were involved.
Officers said a southbound 1998 Chevrolet Suburban crashed with a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu on 50th Street East.
Then, the Suburban driver swerved left into the northbound lanes, where it sideswiped the Malibu.
Subsequently, the Malibu crashed with a southbound Toyota Yaris.
The 64-year-old male in the front seat passenger of the Malibu died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Mac Smith, of Lancaster.
Meanwhile, the Malibu driver, Lurlene Smith, and her two other passengers were rushed to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
Moreover, rescuers took the Suburban driver, 52-year-old Michael Reinert of Lancaster, to a hospital for moderate injury treatment. He was not arrested.
The authorities also took the Yaris driver, 32-year-old Richard Gomez of Lancaster, to a hospital for major injury treatment.
Furthermore, officers said the involvement of alcohol and drugs is not considered at this time and is still under investigation.
