Ma. Guadalupe Durate Dead, Two Injured in Coarsegold Crash
COARSEGOLD, CA (January 14, 2019) — One person died and another seriously injured in a t-bone crash on Highway 41 on Thursday, January 10.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a man at the front of a long line of northbound vehicles was slowing to turn right into his driveway, just south of the Black Hawk Lodge.
Witnesses stated that everyone was moving at about 50 miles per hour when a Madera woman traveling in a Chevy HHR in the middle of the line of traffic, slammed on her brakes for undetermined reasons.
That action caused the vehicle to skid and went up the embankment on the east side of the road. Then it slid back down and spun into the southbound lane, where it was t-boned by a southbound Ford Fusion.
The impact of the incident flipped the Chevy onto its roof and both vehicles came to a stop blocking the southbound lane.
The driver of the Chevy, 44-year-old Ma. Guadalupe Gonzalez Durate died at the scene.
The passenger in the Ford Fusion, a 16-year-old female, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Valley Children’s Hospital. She was accompanied by her 35-year-old mother, the driver of the Ford, who sustained unknown injuries. Both are residents of Coarsegold.
The incident is still under investigation.
We’d like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Ma. Guadalupe Durate. This is no easy time for anyone, and we hope you all find comfort and strength around you.
