50-Year-Old Woman Struck and Killed by Car on 8700 Block of South Hosmer Street near S 84th Street
TACOMA, WA (February 22, 2018) – Just before 7:30 PM on Wednesday evening, a woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the 8700 block of South Hosmer Street, just off the northbound Interstate 5 exit for S 84th Street.
The victim was identified as 50-year-old Lynn Dow. She had just left a Handy Grocery and Deli and was crossing the northbound lanes of S Hosmer, when struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. There was no crosswalk in this area. The car did not stop or slow down, and fled the scene with the injured victim lying in the road.
Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Officer Loretta Cool said that if the driver had stayed at the scene of the accident, likely no action would have been taken; but now the accident in a crime.
Hosmer was blocked between S 84th and S 92nd streets while officials investigated the scene of the crash. Authorities found the car abandoned 10 blocks away from the scene of the crash, and do not believe the registered owner was involved. They continue to search for the driver. It was a two-door, older model Jeep Cherokee with a two-tone color of brown and cream. No other information has been released at this time.
We offer sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the Lynn Dow. May she rest in peace.
