Jose Gutierrez Missing in Bakersfield Fatal Collision, Passenger Luis Fernando Salazar Identified
Bakersfield, CA (December 11, 2021) – On Thursday, Jose Alberto Gutierrez, 27, was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5, and Luis Salazar, 20, was killed.
The rollover crash took place at about 1 p.m. on December 9, south of Old River Road.
Officers said Gutierrez and his passenger were southbound on the freeway. Apparently, the Bakersfield man attempted to pass an RV.
However, he clipped the RV’s left rear and he lost control of the vehicle. Gutierrez left the road and the vehicle rolled several times into an orchard.
Unfortunately, his passenger, Luis Fernando Salazar of Bakersfield, died at the crash scene.
Meanwhile, a good Samaritan came to help Gutierrez and his passenger. Gutierrez took the Samaritan’s car at gunpoint and fled.
Meanwhile, the officers are investigating if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the initial crash.
