Driver Trying to Pass a Slower Vehicle Dies in Crash on 10 Freeway in Banning
BANNING, CA (May 23, 2019) – A man was killed in a car accident Thursday morning on the rain-soaked eastbound 10 Freeway in Banning.
The fatal crash happened just before 7:00 a.m. near the Desert Hills Inspection Facility.
According to reports, a Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound at approximately 70 mph and was trying to pass a slower-moving vehicle by moving from the left lane to the right lane. The Nissan then lost control on the wet roadway and went over the south embankment where it collided with a tree.
The driver, identified by the Riverside County coroner as Luis Ochoa Ruiz, 33, of Rialto, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was in the vehicle, according to the fire department.
The crash remains under investigation.
