Sunnyvale Man Dies in Violent Crash at Saratoga Avenue and Los Padres Boulevard
SANTA CLARA, CA (April 25, 2019) – A man was killed following a high-speed crash Thursday morning in Santa Clara, police said.
The crash was reported about 9:48 a.m. at the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Los Padres Boulevard.
A black Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit a blue Ford Focus making a right turn from Los Padres onto westbound Saratoga. The impact caused the Fusion to overturn and hit a tree in the center divider before finally coming to rest against a parked car. The Focus also knocked into the parked car.
The driver of the Fusion was rushed to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified by authorities as Luis Miranda Castro, 22, of Sunnyvale.
The Focus driver, a 77-year-old Santa Clara resident, complained of pain but declined further treatment.
It is unknown if charges has been filed and liability has not yet been determined.
Authorities are still working on the incident and urging witnesses to come forward with information.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Luis Castro during this time of grief.
