Lucero Barajas-Madriz Injured in Crippling 2-Vehicle Crash on Service Road [Ceres, CA]

4 Injured in Ceres Auto Accident on Service Road near Crows Landing Road

CERES, CA (April 14, 2024) – Tuesday morning, a crippling 2-vehicle crash on Service Road injured Lucero Barajas-Madriz and 4 others.

The incident happened at around 11:00 a.m. on Service Road, around 1000 feet south of the intersection with Crows Landing Road.

Reports said that one occupant remained trapped in the wreckage, awaiting extraction by firefighters, while three others were taken to local hospitals with various injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when Barajas-Madriz, 30, of Modesto, attempted a northbound turn onto Service Road from the United Pallet Services business, leading to a collision with a southbound 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Martell Sandoval-Mendoza, 41, of Turlock. The impact caused both vehicles to veer southeast. The Camry spun off the roadway, while the pickup came to a stop in the street.

Trapped in the wreckage, Barajas-Madriz awaited rescue, while her front-seat passenger, Jose Barajas-Mendoza, 45, of Modesto, suffered major head injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

CHP Public Information Officer Tom Olsen noted, “He took blunt force trauma to the head.”

Thanks to the efforts of Modesto Firefighters using the jaws of life, Barajas-Madriz was freed from the wreckage. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center with complaints of pain and moderate injuries, including lacerations.

Meanwhile, Martell Sandoval-Mendoza sustained minor injuries, and his passenger, Melissa Michelle Stewart, 47, of Turlock, suffered major head lacerations. They were both taken to Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

The roadway was closed for some time until the crash scene was processed and cleared.
