LUCERNE VALLEY, CA (May 3, 2019) – An elderly woman was airlifted to a trauma center following a head-on crash Friday afternoon in Lucerne Valley.
The crash happened at 5:23 p.m. along Highway 18 in, just in front of the Mitsubishi Cement Plant.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a black Dodge Ram was trying to pass a motorhome. When he crossed over the double yellow lines, he saw a white Dodge Dakota but it was too late to avoid an accident. First responders found one elderly female passenger trapped inside the Dakota with major injuries.
After extrication was completed, the woman was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in an unknown condition.
The male driver of the Dakota was taken by ground ambulance with minor injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle, an off-duty US Forest Service employee, was uninjured.
No additional information was provided at this time. CHP Victorville is working on the investigation.
Always be alert and watchful to those around you when driving. Maintain a safe speed and do not allow yourself to lose control by braking so suddenly that you skid. Slow down so that if there is an impact, this will greatly reduce the damage done and the risk of fatality.
