23-Year-Old Western Washington University Student Hospitalized after Hit-and-Run Crash on Southbound I-5 Near Samish Way Exit

 
BELLINGHAM, WA (January 31, 2018)Lucas Brazier, 23, of Woodinville, was critically injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on the southbound Interstate 5 near Samish Way exit, around 9:37 PM on Wednesday night.
 
The Washington State Patrol received 911 calls about a person crossing the southbound 5 freeway in the middle of the night, near milepost 250.
 
Brazier, a junior at Western Washington University, was found by responders in the brush along the southbound shoulder between Samish Way and Old Fairhaven Parkway. He sustained critical injuries including severe head trauma and broken legs, and was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. Brazier was later flown by air ambulance to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
 
The hit-and-run pedestrian accident remains under investigation as the WSP searched for the unidentified vehicle. Based on evidence, they are looking for a green 1991-1996 Ford Escort or a 1991-1996 Mercury Tracer, that should have damage to front passenger side headlight area and windshield. The hit-and-run driver might face felony charges of vehicular assault when found.
