LODI, CA – Two Killed and Two Injured in Collision on Highway 12

Fatal Car Accident on Highway 12 near the 5 Freeway

 
LODI, CA (March 13, 2018) – On Tuesday, two cars collided while traveling along Highway 12 near the 5 Freeway, killing two people and injuring two others.
 
The California Highway Patrol reported that a westbound black Nissan Murano SUV was traveling on Highway 12, when the driver crossed over the double yellow lines and passed other cars, before losing control. The SUV spun out and veered into the eastbound traffic lanes.
 
A red Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by an 83-year-old man, attempted to swerve out of the way to avoid crashing. The vehicle hit the side of the SUV, causing the minivan to go into an embankment before coming to a full stop.
 
The 27-year-old female driver of the SUV and an 83-year-old woman passenger of the minivan suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The elderly driver of the minivan suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. Another passenger of the minivan, who is reportedly pregnant, sustained major injuries and was rushed to the Stockton Hospital.
 
According to Sgt. Kyle Plant, the driver of the SUV was wearing her seat belt but was ejected from the vehicle. The woman’s identity was not immediately disclosed, pending notification of her family.
 
The road was reportedly damp at the time of the crash, but authorities stated that it was not a factor in the fatal accident. Westbound and eastbound lanes were temporarily closed after the accident for investigation, but were reopened around 11:00 AM.
