Young Mother Dies in Afternoon Head-On Collision in Lodi
LODI, CA (April 14, 2019) – One person was killed and four others were injured following a head-on crash Sunday afternoon along a two-lane highway in Lodi.
The fatal crash happened around 1:46 p.m. on 99 Frontage Road, just between East Hogan Lane and East Harney Lane.
According to the CHP, a 2014 Nissan was traveling southbound when it abruptly swerved into the northbound lane as it approached a northbound 2000 Chrysler, colliding the vehicle head-on.
A 21-year-old woman from Lodi, who was a front passenger of the Nissan, was killed in the crash. She was reportedly not wearing her seat belt. Her name has not yet been released by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.
Four others suffered major to minor injuries, including the woman’s 21-year-old husband who was driving and their 1-year-old daughter in the rear of the Nissan; and a man and woman, both 56 years old, in the Chrysler, according to the report.
A post on social media indicated that the woman and her family were returning home from grocery shopping when the crash occurred. Her husband of less than one month reportedly suffered a fractured pelvic bone and broken leg while the baby sustained a fractured arm.
In addition, the post noted that the husband had enlisted in the U.S. Army and was in the process of preparing to leave home in a couple of weeks.
Authorities did not rule out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
