Young Man Dies in Head-On Crash at Highway 1 and Highway 183
CASTROVILLE, CA (March 13, 2019) – A young man was killed following a head-on crash Wednesday night on Highway 1 in unincorporated Castroville.
The fatal crash was reported at 6:43 p.m. on the northbound direction of Highway 1, just North of Highway 183.
According to the CHP, a white Honda Civic was traveling northbound on the highway when for unknown reasons, it veered into the southbound lane where it crashed head-on with a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Honda was rushed to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office as Lloyd Orozco, 19, a Castroville resident.
A 56-year-old Watsonville woman driving the Toyota and her passenger were also hospitalized with moderate injuries, CHP officials said.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision. Further investigation is underway.
