Injuries Reported in Whittier Pedestrian Accident on 13000 Whittier Boulevard
WHITTIER, CA (November 3, 2023) – Monday afternoon, Lisa Park-Ortiz suffered injuries in a crippling hit-and-run crash on 13000 Whittier Boulevard.
The incident occurred just after 3:00 p.m. in the 13000 block of Whittier Boulevard, between Washington and Madison avenues, according to Whittier police.
A video revealed that a woman exited her parked car. However, she got struck by a dark-colored SUV that passed by. Then, the victim fell to the ground while the suspect remained outstanding.
“They didn’t even hit the brakes. Her son, who witnessed her get hit, ran into the barbershop and asked them to call 911,” said Mary Ann Grant, the victim’s aunt.
Officers later found out that the victim was taking her son to get a haircut when the incident happened.
“I understand being scared, but you’ve had several days of carrying this on your conscious, and the weight has got to be very heavy,” Grant said.
As a result of the crash, Park-Ortiz, a two-time cancer survivor, remained in the hospital with several broken bones.
“It’s going to be a long recovery,” Grant said. “She has a lot of breaks in the pelvis, vertebrae, and a gash on her head that required five staples.”
Meanwhile, the family set up a donation drive for bills and rent via fundrazr.com.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
What’s Next after Crash Involving Lisa Park-Ortiz
Statewide traffic crash rates in Texas are a serious matter.
In fact, the Texas Department of Transportation reports a road accident every 57 seconds. Also, more crashes on Texas roadways happen on Sundays than on any other day of the week.
The aftershock of an accident is not something to be dealt with alone. The burden is meant to be shared; preferably, with a community that knows how to handle the effects.
