Car Fatally Struck Bicyclist Linda Smythe Near the Intersection of Portola Parkway
Irvine, CA (May 27, 2020)– On Monday morning, Linda Smythe, a bicyclist, died in a crash in the Portila Parkway and 261 toll road intersection.
The Irvine Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority arrived at the scene on May 25 at about 10:00 a.m.
According to the reports, the fatal collision took place near the intersection of Portila Parkway and the 261 toll road.
The collision involved a bicyclist and a gray Mercedes Benz ML350, said Karie Davis, an Irvine Police Department spokesperson.
The bicyclist, a 70-year-old Lynda Smythe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the Mercedes driver stayed and cooperated with the police investigation.
Furthermore, Irvine PD believes that alcohol and drugs did not influence the crash.
Due to the extent of the crash, crews shut down the Portila Parkway from Forge to the 261 toll road for several hours.
