SUV Hits Street Sweeper and Overturns on Highway 74 near Mermack Road, Driver Killed
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (March 8, 2019) – A woman was killed following a collision with a street sweeper early Friday morning in Lake Elsinore.
The fatal crash happened around 3:35 a.m. on Highway 74 near Mermack Road.
According to reports, an SUV collided with the street sweeper that belongs to a company contracted by the city of Lake Elsinore. It then overturned, killing the driver.
The driver has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Linda Diaz, 30, of Riverside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sweeper had just completed cleaning both roadway shoulders and the center median when the collision occurred, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
The highway was closed for more than six hours for the investigation.
Alcohol and drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash.
