Officers Arrest Driver in DUI Collision Near Naval Base San Diego
San Diego, CA (January 30, 2023) – On Sunday, a Lincoln SUV driver sustained injuries in an Interstate 5 hit-and-run crash.
The traffic accident took place just before 2 a.m. near the Naval Base San Diego.
According to the authorities, a Lincoln driver was southbound on the freeway when he was struck by a man driving a Mazda.
The Lincoln blocked the on-ramp from Main Street near the base’s Yama Street gate while the Mazda went down a steep embankment and went over the edge of a large storm channel. Consequently, the vehicle overturned and rested against a base security fence.
The paramedics took the Lincoln driver to a hospital while the man driving the Mazda kicked out the rear window and fled the scene on foot.
Moreover, CHP troopers closed the ramp for more than three hours for clean-up and investigation.
Officers later found the Mazda driver of the Mazda and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
We should always follow all driving laws and the conditions of the road. If you see any vehicle or driver that looks dangerous, keep your distance. If you see a vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes, following too closely, or traveling at a higher rate of speed, move over a few lanes and get out of their way.
Drive defensively to ensure the safety of surrounding vehicles and to avoid incidents like the Interstate 5 hit-and-run crash.
