Father and Daughter Fatally Injured in Boating Accident

 
BASS LAKE, CA (September 3, 2018)  – On Monday afternoon, a young girl died and her father was injured in a boating crash at Bass Lake. The deceased victim was later identified by Madera County Sheriff’s officials as 7-year-old Lily Harris.
 
The incident occurred at around 3:00 PM during Labor Day celebrations at Bass Lake. Madera County Sheriff’s officials stated that 7-year-old Lily and her father, Brandon Harris, were run over by a boat while in the lake.
 
According to witnesses, it appeared that Lily was tubing at the time of the crash. A witness, Mike Martinez, stated that he was in line getting ready to return his jet ski by the dock when he noticed a boat, with two frantically screaming adults, speeding through the slow zone and running over Lily. Martinez says lifeguards and vacationing EMT’s responded to the tragic incident.
 
The young victim was airlifted to the Valley Children’s Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical professionals. Family members say Brandon had surgery and is recovering at a local hospital. He suffered broken bones while trying to protect his daughter. A GoFundMe page was set up to help thr Harris family with funeral and medical expenses.
 
It was not immediately known if charges will be filed against the driver of the boat. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
