17-Year-Old Levi Matsuda Dead after Arlington Heights Skateboard Collision
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL (August 1, 2019) — A teenage boy identified as Levi Matsuda died while riding a skateboard on Saturday, July 27.
Officials rushed to the 4100 block of North Ridge Avenue at about 7 p.m. for a traffic incident with injuries.
According to police, 17-year-old Levi Matsuda was holding onto a 2015 Honda Pilot that drove southbound on Ridge Avenue from Foxdale Lane. After that, Matsuda separated from the vehicle. Then he fell to the ground.
Matsuda suffered severe head injuries. First responders transported him to Northwest Community Hospital. Emergency room physicians pronounced him dead after 10 p.m.
The sole driver of the Pilot is a juvenile and stayed with Matsuda at the scene until officers arrived.
On Sunday, the following day, teens gathered at the crash site and created a memorial. They said they were classmates of Matsuda. Matsuda was a student at Buffalo Grove High School.
Arlington Heights police are still investigating the incident.
