Oakland Man Identified as Hit-and-Run Victim near Eastmont Town Center
OAKLAND, CA (October 5, 2018) – A man was killed Friday evening following a pedestrian crash near Eastmont Town Center. The victim was later identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office as 53-year-old Lester Charles Harris of Oakland.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident took place at about 8:09 PM. The victim was walking across 73rd Avenue when he stumbled and fell in the number one lane of traffic. He attempted to stand up but fell into the number two lane, where he was struck by a vehicle.
Harris suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
Authorities described the vehicle as an older model, black Ford Thunderbird. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the driver and/or the vehicle is asked to contact Oakland Police traffic investigators by calling (510) 777-8570. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
