Woodland, WA (December 02, 2021) – On Thursday, 44-year-old Leonel Lopez Tello of Kalama lost his life in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5.
The authorities received the crash report at 6:28 a.m. south of Horseshoe Lake Park.
Tello in a a red 2006 Toyota Corolla and another driver in a dark-colored Honda Civic were southbound on the freeway and just passed Exit 21.
Just then, the Honda moved from the left lane to the middle lane.
Tello lost control of his vehicle and crossed the right lane and right shoulder.
Afterward, his vehicle went down a 30-foot embankment and through a chain-link fence. It crossed the Northwest Lakeshore Drive, struck the far-side guardrail and went airborne.
Finally, Tello’s vehicle landed on the bank and rolled into the lake, before it finally rested on its roof mostly submerged.
Meanwhile, the Honda’s driver reversed to where the Toyota went off the road. He got out of his vehicle and stood around for few minutes. Then, he went back into his car and left.
Moreover, the responders found the Toyota in the water and extricated the driver. Right away, the paramedics began CPR before he was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, where he died.
Moreover, the State Patrol asks for the public’s help identifying the suspect vehicle, which is a dark-colored, two-door car — similar to a late-’90s or early-2000s Honda Civic, and its driver. Officers said the suspect was wearing dark-colored pants and an orange construction-style sweatshirt during the incident.
