49-Year-Old Napa Field Worker Dies in Industrial Incident near Silverado Trail
NAPA, CA (October 29, 2018) – A Napa field worker was killed in a grape-picker machine accident on Monticello Road. The Napa County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victim as 49-year-old Leon Marcelo Lua from Napa.
According to Sheriff’s office spokesman, Henry Wofford, the fatal accident took place just around 12:30 PM, at Deconinck Vineyards. First responders were at the scene within five minutes, but pronounced Lua dead at 12:45 PM.
A family member says that Lua was on the grounds working next to the machine, when a piece of his clothing got caught, causing him to be pulled into it and killed. A GoFundMe page was set up to help family members with memorial expenses.
As per police reports, police are still investigating the cause of the accident and will determine if the employer will face any criminal responsibilities. The incident in under investigation by CAL/OSHA. No further details have been disclosed at this time.
