Two Drivers Dead after Fiery Tanker Crash near Crenshaw Boulevard Exit

HAWTHORNE, CA (August 24, 2018) – Two drivers were killed early Friday morning following a fiery tanker crash on the 105 Freeway. One of the drivers was later identified as 33-year-old Leo Cabrera.

As per reports, the incident took place at about 5:13 AM near the Crenshaw Boulevard exit. A silver Land Rover was swerving in and out of traffic, and a tanker truck attempted to avoid the vehicle. Eventually, the Rover struck the rear of the tank, causing the truck to overturn and slam into the divider.

The impact of the collision caused a massive fire that took more than an hour for fire personnel to extinguish. Cabrera, the driver of the tanker truck, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the Land Rover was also killed in the incident. His name and place of residence were not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

A GoFundMe page was created to help Cabrera’s family with ongoing expenses. Click on the link to donate and to support the campaign.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information was not provided to the public at this time.

We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Leo Cabrera and the other deceased victim. Cabrera leaves his wife and three young children behind. May they both rest in peace.
