3 Dead in Callahan County Auto Accident on W 3rd Street and Peyton Road
CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX (May 6, 2024) – Early Sunday, Layni Potter and 2 others died in a devastating car crash on W 3rd Street.
The incident happened at the intersection of West 3rd Street (FM 18) and Peyton Road in Baird at 2:10 a.m.
Reports said that a Kia Spectra that was driving south on Peyton Street came to a stop at a stop sign. Then, a Chevrolet truck was approaching the intersection on West 3rd.
The collision occurred when the Kia failed to yield the right of way to the truck, resulting in a crash at the intersection. Tragically, three passengers were ejected from the Kia during the collision.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Kia sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital before being released. Another passenger from the Kia is currently in stable condition after being transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the driver of the truck was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.
Moreover, three passengers from the Kia, identified as 18-year-old Potter, 18-year-old Madi Buchanan, and a 16-year-old male, were pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s noted that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, but none of the passengers were.
Following the incident, 35-year-old Ashlie Haynes was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Texas Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the incident, and Sergeant Marc Couch mentioned that the collected information may lead to further charges.
