5-Year-Old Girl Dies in Solo-Car Crash Down Embankment off Kirker Pass and Hess Roads
CONCORD, CA (March 1, 2018) – A solo-car crash occurred off Kirker Pass Road on Thursday morning, killing a 5-year-old girl and injuring three others.
According to the Contra Costa California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place around 8:39 AM. A 2006 Dodge SUV, driven by an unidentified 27-year-old man, swerved off the roadway for unknown reasons. The car went down an embankment and overturned.
The driver suffered minor injuries, as did his 21-year-old female passenger. Both adults were transported to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment. The 6-year-old son of the female passenger sustained minor to moderate injuries and was taken to the Oakland Children’s Hospital.
Layloni Westbrook, 5, was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash. The little girl from Antioch was also taken to the Oakland Children’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The fatal accident is currently under investigation by authorities. Alcohol and drugs do not seem to be involved, but CHP Officer Brandon Correia stated that weather conditions could have played a role. He also said that the child safety seats were not used properly, or at all. Contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez if you witnessed the incident and have any additional information at (925) 646-4980.
