1 Dead in Ventura County Car Crash on Pacific Coast Highway
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (November 4, 2020) – Monday afternoon, Lauren Machuca died in an accident on Pacific Coast Highway near Thornhill Broome Beach.
The authorities received a report of the crash before 5:00 p.m., just south of the beach. It happened south of Mugu Rock in Ventura.
According to reports, 19-year-old Lauren Machuca of Mesa, Arizona drove a southbound 2010 Honda Civic. A 19-year-old female passenger from Mesa rode with her. The CHP confirmed that both women wore their seat belts.
Then, Machuca pulled over on the right shoulder of the southbound lane.
Meanwhile, a 57-year-old male driver from the Harbor City of Los Angeles drove south in a 2016 BMW 328d. The authorities confirmed that he also wore a seat belt. For unknown reasons, Machuca maneuvered and initiated a U-turn onto the road in front of BMW’s path.
As a result, the BMW’s front end hit the Honda’s left side. The impact forced both vehicles into the right shoulder of the northbound lane.
When the firefighters arrived, they extricated Machuca from the wreckage through heavy equipment. However, they declared Lauren Machuca dead at the scene. Meanwhile, her passenger sustained major injuries and was transported by an ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center.
The BMW driver said that he didn’t suffer any injury. Furthermore, both vehicles suffered major damage.
On the other hand, the authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Due to the incident, the authorities shut down both lanes of the coastal highway for around two hours.
The authorities continue to investigate the crash. Also, the authorities encouraged anyone who saw the crash to contact Officer Steve Lutzke at the CHP’s Ventura office, 805-662-2640.
