Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Hitting LAPD Officer at San Pedro and 61st Streets
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (August 26, 2019) – Authorities identified Officer Mike Martinez as the LAPD officer struck by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles, Monday evening.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened at about 10:40 PM. Officer Martinez exited the patrol car to investigate a possible stolen vehicle near East 61st Street and San Pedro Street. Then, a speeding driver struck the officer, causing him to land on the hood of the vehicle.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics treated and evaluated the injured officer at the scene. As per reports, he suffered injuries to his elbow, wrist, and knee. However, it is unknown whether or not he went to the hospital for further examination.
Investigators confirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid and fled the area. Authorities ask anyone with information to cooperate as soon as possible.
