Passenger Transported in LA 2-Vehicle Crash
Los Angeles, CA (April 6, 2024) – A passenger was injured and LAPD Lt. Matthew Ensley was arrested following a 605 Freeway DUI crash Sunday.
Investigating officers said Ensley was off-duty when he was driving his personal vehicle, an Audi, south of Spring Street. Troopers said he rear-ended a Toyota Camry on the northbound freeway.
The CHP officers arrested Ensley at the crash scene after performing field sobriety tests. Apparently, his blood-alcohol content was at more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%.
Moreover, the Camry passenger was rushed to a hospital.
There is no information if speed was a factor in this traffic accident.
Later on, Ensley was booked on six counts. Two felonies later were filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office — one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury, and one count of driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol content causing injury.
The lieutenant pleaded not guilty to both felony charges at an arraignment in Bellflower on Wednesday. He was released after posting $100,000 bail. Hi will appear in court again in May.
Pay attention to your surroundings whenever driving. Abiding by all the driving laws and following all the road signs are simple ways to avoid traffic accidents.
Additionally, defensive driving plays a big role in ensuring the safety of both you and the other motorists and pedestrians on the road.

Despite their scrupulous creation and mapping for efficient travel, highways are among the most dangerous places on earth. Consequently, everyone must remain calm to handle the situation effectively after a collision.
In fact, on the AAA Foundation website, Chief Executive Officer Peter Kissinger repeatedly labeled the epidemic of motor vehicle-related accidents a “public health crisis.”
The following are things we should remember if we are involved in an accident:
- Before anything else, seek medical attention if you or someone with you has been hurt.
- Get to a safe place to prevent further damage or injury.
- Collect as much information as possible, including insurance and contact information for people involved in the accident and pictures/videos of vehicles involved. Also, do not forget to document faults and whatever can be used as evidence.
- File a police report or incident report by calling 911.
