LAPD Motorcycle Officer Injured in Crash Involving SUV
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 17, 2019) – A collision near Van Nuys Boulevard and Hartland Street left an LAPD motorcycle officer injured Friday morning.
Officers said they were conducting traffic enforcement at around 10:10 a.m. when the motorcycle officer saw a bicyclist run a red light. The officer attempted to stop the bicyclist when an SUV pulled out of a private driveway in front of the officer. After that, the motorcycle officer crashed into the front of the SUV and was thrown to the ground.
Emergency responders took the officer to a hospital in stable condition. However, he may have suffered some broken bones. An infant who was in the other vehicle with three adults was safely taken out. Medics took another occupant to a hospital due to complaints of pain.
An aerial video showed a heavily-damaged motorcycle and an SUV at the scene. As a result, several Los Angeles Police Department units also came to the area. In addition, the officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the crash. Officials said the SUV also has a camera.
The intersection remained closed hours after the incident for an investigation.
