Traffic Stalled after Thurston County Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway
THURSTON COUNTY, WA (October 23, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash blocked all lanes on 5 Freeway near Maytown on October 21.
The collision between four semi-trucks occurred at around 1:00 p.m. and stalled traffic through the evening commute. The southbound lanes remained closed until 11:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the northbound lanes reopened earlier.
Authorities administered alternate routes via 93rd Avenue and Highway 121.
No one suffered any injury in the multi-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway.
Meanwhile, Trooper Johnna Batiste with State Patrol revealed that a northbound semi-truck jackknifed into the center barrier. Then, a northbound second semi hit the first semi, forcing it through the barrier. A southbound third semi-truck then hit the first semi. Furthermore, a fourth semi tried to avoid the crash and went off the road.
Authorities are still investigating the crash.
