People Injured in Kern High School District Bus Fatal Accident on East Belle Terrace
Bakersfield, CA (August 25, 2023) – On Thursday evening, a 48-year-old Lamont man died and three people were injured in a South Mount Vernon Avenue collision.
The authorities received the crash report just after 6:30 p.m. south of South Mount Vernon Avenue and East Belle Terrace.
According to CHP officers, the Kern High School District bus was northbound on Mount Vernon Avenue when a southbound dark-colored Toyota Sienna on Mount Vernon Avenue drifted into northbound traffic lanes, into the path of the school bus.
As a result, the Sienna collided head-on with the school bus.
The 48-year-old Lamont man driving the Sienna succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene. Officers said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
There were 38 students on board the school bus when the accident happened. The school bus driver and two passengers were taken to Kern Medical Hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
According to Kern High School District spokesperson, the school bus was taking Golden Valley High School‘s varsity football team to a game at East High School.
Moreover, the KHSD bus sustained a broken windshield and major front-end damage while the other vehicle incurred severe damage to the front end and driver’s side.
