Trench Collapse Reported in Lake Forest Construction Site near Viejo Ridge Drive
LAKE FOREST, CA (May 9, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon, a worker lost his life in a trench collapse near Glenn Ranch Road.
According to the Orange County Fire officials, the incident happened around 3 PM near Glenn Ranch Road and Viejo Ridge Drive. At 5 PM, they reported that they were still trying to recover the body after hours of removing dirt from the trench, which was around 15 feet deep and 17 feet wide.
The accident happened at the area of Portola Center, a 195-acre residential project with proposed 930 homes. Empire Grading, the construction crew handling the massive residential project, was using an excavator when the trench gave way and buried the worker. It is still unknown if the worker fell into the excavation or he was assigned to be a spotter in the trench.
The identity of the worker was not immediately available to the public, and no additional information was released at this time.
