5-Year-Old Among 3 Pronounced Dead after Vancouver Auto Accident
VANCOUVER, WA (March 9, 2020) – Friday afternoon, Kristi Byars, Rosa Wilson and a young child were killed while two others sustained injuries in an accident on Highway 503.
According to WSP, Clark County deputies arrived to the scene at 3:47 p.m., in the 16200 block of Northeast 117th Avenue.
41-year-old Byars was heading north in a red Volkswagen Golf when she tried to pass traffic in the southbound lanes. There, she collided head-on with a blue Honda minivan.
Three children were occupying the Honda at the time. In addition, the driver was later identified as 31-year-old Wilson, of Brush Prairie.
Both drivers were pronounced dead on scene, including a 5-year-old girl who was inside the minivan. Meanwhile, medics took the two other children, a 7-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl, to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. However, there has been no update on their current condition.
All lanes of the highway were shut down for preliminary duties until they were later reopened around 9:00 p.m. Authorities also dispatched a Life Flight helicopter before it was later canceled.
No further information has been released at this time.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to the family and friends of the Kristi Byars and Rosa Wilson.
