3 Injured in Crescent City Car Collision on Highway 199
CRESCENT CITY, CA (February 5, 2020) – Three people sustained major injuries in a car collision on Highway 199 on February 3.
The Gasquet Fire Department revealed that they used the jaws of life to free one person from a vehicle.
At around 8:30 p.m., 46-year-old Kostadin Biserinkov of Cave Junction Oregon drove his 2015 Honda northbound on Highway 199, north of Siskiyou Fork Road. Meanwhile, 25-year old Crescent City Pa Houa Thao of Crescent City drove her 1997 Toyota southbound on Highway 199, north of Siskiyou Fork Road. 21-year old passenger Mai Ka Ying Thao also rode with Pa Houa Thao when the collision happened.
“For reasons still under investigation, the Honda crossed over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane causing the front of the Honda to collide with the front of the Toyota,” the CHP stated.
When the emergency personnel came to the scene, they provided medical assistance to all parties. All of the people involved, Kostadin Biserinkov, Pa Houa Thao and Mai Ka Ying Tha, all suffered major injuries.
Gasquet Fire, Crescent City Fire Protection District, Del Norte Ambulance, American Medical Response, and Caltrans all responded and aided to the scene.
Authorities also ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the collision.
The CHP Crescent City Area Office is currently handling the investigation.
