Teenager Killed in Kansas City Traffic Crash on Interstate 70 near Northwest Woods Chapel Road

KANSAS CITY, MO (September 25, 2024) – Saturday night, Kevin Pacheco suffered injuries in a brutal auto accident on Interstate 70.

The incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Interstate 70 near Northwest Woods Chapel Road, said the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that a 17-year-old male driver was behind the wheel of a Toyota Tacoma when he cut off a Lexus driven by 70-year-old Paul McLaughlin. The Lexus struck the front passenger side of the Toyota, causing the truck to roll over. All passengers in the Toyota were ejected from the vehicle, including a 15-year-old boy who tragically lost his life at the scene. 

The driver and a 19-year-old passenger, identified as Pacheco, were also thrown from the vehicle, both sustaining severe injuries. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), none of the teens wore seatbelts at the time of the accident.

McLaughlin, who was properly restrained with a seatbelt, walked away from the crash unharmed. Authorities believe alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors to the incident.
