Kevin Jones Arrested in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway [ARLETA, CA]

Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway at Osborne Street

 
ARLETA, CA (July 6, 2019) – A man was arrested following a fatal pedestrian crash early Saturday morning on 5 Freeway in Arleta, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m., along the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway near Osborne Street. First responders arrived to the area shortly after.
 
According to reports, a witness saw the vehicle strike a female pedestrian. Two good Samaritans, both men, pulled off the right shoulder after they saw the pedestrian lying in freeway traffic lanes.
 
While standing on the right shoulder, both men were struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. Both were transported to a local hospital, where at least one underwent surgery. However, an update on their condition was not immediately available.
 
The female pedestrian also suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead on scene as a result of the impact. However, her name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
 
The driver who struck the woman remained on scene and was arrested on suspicion of murder, the CHP said. He was identified as Kevin Deshaun Jones, 39, of Los Angeles.
 
Officers are still currently on the lookout for the hit-and-run suspect at this time.
